If school kills creativity, what about law school?

Sir Ken Robinson offers some critique of our education system in this video from 2006. Perhaps some of this could be used in law school reform.

Who ever heard of creativity in law school?

  1. Law school is the beginning of a long, slow process of creativity destruction. Entering into the practice of law is when total destruction is achieved. You will never have another original, funny, interesting, or stimulating idea again. You will not be the slightest bit interested in being creative either, after you get home from your mind-numbing day in court/at the office. All you will want to do is sit in a chair and vegetate, like a turnip. I always wondered who the audience was for mindless shows like Who’s The Boss, and America’s Funniest Home Videos. Now I know: it’s lawyers.

  2. I am a graduate student in law who is currently writing a paper about creativity in legal education. I am collecting stories, reflections and comments on this subject. Please check out my website and pass it along to any (current or former) law students or educators that you know: http://creativelegaled.webs.com/.

    Thanks!
