Justin Morris, a member of the Ryerson University Conservative Club, sent an e-mail to Heather Kere, the vice-president of education at Ryerson.
But Kere is also a member of the United Black Students of Ryerson. And the e-mail had little to do with her role as VP Education.
Morris’ e-mail accused Kere of being a racist for inviting a former Black Panther to speak at Ryerson. But his e-mail also used the title, KKK — White Power, in the subject line.
Maybe we can be very tolerant and invite Black Panthers to Ryerson to teach us that whites are some sort of disease and that we must be exterminated off the face of the planet.
To their credit, Ryerson Conservatives have denounced the e-mail and expelled related members from the group. John Tory, the Party leader, has also condemned the e-mail. Tory was featured last year in Toronto Life as Conservatism’s last hope, especially because he was the first Conservative leader to make genuine and significant overtures to minorities.
But this does confirm previous suspicions. Although there is nothing inherent about Conservatism that fosters racism, those with racist views invariably are members of the Conservative Party.
The situation may have been different had controversial Tory Randy Hillier created his own far-right party, as he threatened to do last election. But for the time being, such right-wing radicals have only the Conservative Party to rely on, and we can only suspect how their lobbying efforts affect Conservative policy.
Thanks to Chris Drew of Ryerson University and Ontario Young Liberals for the heads up.
The National Disgrace article says that Justin’s brother Trevor was also booted from the young Conservatives. Any idea why?
LawIsCool: Although we like to think of ourselves as the central collective of all the going-ons in the world, we know it really isn’t true. Best bet – look for more news stories, or contact individuals involved. If you do find out, feel free to come back and share.
“Although there is nothing inherent about Conservatism that fosters racism, those with racist views invariably are members of the Conservative Party.â€
I did not express any “racist views†at most it was angry, inappropriate and insensitive. If you would read the articles you would know that the “views†expressed an objection to Black racists on campus and the invitation of Black Supremacist Malik Zulu Shabazz from the New Black Panther Party based out of Dallas, Texas.
If you would do your homework you would know that the New Black Panther Party is a violent U.S. based Hate group. Chris Drew was the Vice-President of Finance and Services in the Ryerson Students Union when they invited this hate monger to campus.
I met up with Chris Drew in the “dungeon†at Ryerson, a common hang out place for Engineers. I explained to him my objection and he seemed almost sympathetic towards the Black Power invitation.
I have a question for the leftist radicals out there. If we “right-wing radicals†are somehow “racist†then why is it that you enjoy the company of Black racists on campus?
Sincerely,
Justin Morris

Justin, thank you for writing in. Maybe you can answer Robert McClelland’s question above.
If you would like to explore this subject further with us please do let us know. We may even consider doing a podcast interview. I do not agree with the sentiments expressed by the individual you protested against, but at the same time cannot find the content of your response defensible.
I will disclose however that Chris Drew is a personal friend of mine, and that I am also a member of the Ryerson Alumni Community that maintains close ties with my Alma Mater.
Trevor is innocent; Trevor had nothing to do with this. Trevor was reinstated as a member of the Ryerson Conservative Club after an investigation was done by club President Brian Petz.
I have no desire to discuss this any further.
Regards,
Justin Morris
