Skilled immigrants to be offered ‘express entry’ to Canada in 2015; by: Inna Maister

Express Entry Program is a new Canadian economic immigration program, which will help people from different countries to immigrate to Maple Leaf Country. Canadian government is going to invest $14 million for two years and $4.7 million per the following year to provide the development of this program.
“Express Entry” is a program, which will offer a list of jobs for which there are no available workers in Canada. Thus a lot of qualified workers from all over the world will get an opportunity to immigrate to Canada on a legal basis. Obviously, that not all provinces have job shortages.
Previously such job offers gave an opportunity to receive work permit for a determined period of time (mostly one or two years) and then workers must back to their home countries. Otherwise, they may be deported. Such rules are still in force, but due to 1st of January, 2015.
Another advantage of Express Entry Program is faster processing time of applications. Formerly it took approximately two years and since the beginning of 2015 it will take just up to six months.
Potential workers will have to present their professional skills, education, knowledge of foreign languages and level of English, of course. Confirmation of sufficient English level is results in such language proof examinations as Ielts, Toefl, etc. Thereby, Canadian employers will choose workers who are comply with.
“Express Entry” will be available for applicants of four immigration programs such as Canadian Experience Class, Federal skilled workers, Federal skilled trades and Business class. These current programs help people to simplify the process of getting Permanent Resident Status and then citizenship, accordingly. Canadian Experience Class is one of the most popular program nowadays, in accordance with which, 10,000 international students have already received Permanent Resident status in Canada since 2012.
So that, “Express Entry” will help to solve the problem of skills shortages in Canada and meanwhile will facilitate foreigners of getting PR status by much more easier way.

I’m very happy that the Canadian Government has introduced this express entry system. This provides a lot of opportunity for immigrants to settle into Canada with a solid future in mind and at the same time, they will bring a lot of valuable skills, knowledge, and experience to the jobs they take up. Thank you for sharing this. I have some friends who may be interested in this system!

Everyone should be given the opportunity to attain the “North American Dream”. I very happy to be a Canadian citizen, this diverse country offers the opportunity for everyone to be successful. I am pleased to know that the Canadian government is putting money towards developing a program that will benefit immigrants who are looking for a way out. So many skilled workers exist in third world countries were jobs are not available, so if Canada has the job market for these immigrant and if Canadians don’t want these jobs then I say open the door and welcome those who qualify in.

Inna, this is great news. The Expression of Interest (EOI) or “Express Entry” model is a significant leap forward for the Canadian government in terms of adjusting our system to attract skilled immigrants into the country.

The modernizing and adaptation to a fully electronic format for the application process is obviously a huge step forward in clearing up backlog as stated in the Bill C-31, Economic Action Plan 2014 Act, No. 1, Part 6, Division 20.

Interestingly enough, this same underlying mechanism of the EOI system raises “questions about the express entry system that remain unanswered” as detailed in the letter from the CBA to House of Commons “Bill C-31, Economic Action Plan 2014 Act, No. 1, Part 6, Division 20, Immigration and Refugee Protection Act Amendments” recommending amendments to the bill.

In conclusion, with the Canadian government’s initial investment of $14M, let’s hope that the matching of skilled applicants with unfilled jobs is efficient and that procedural fairness be maintained and the selection process remains transparent.

Again,a great news by Canada government after relaxing the requirement of off campus work permit. This new rule will open the doors for people to get settle in a peaceful country(Canada).Canada is cosmopolitan country with less number of population as compared to other countries, this step will help the country to have cream from the world.

This sounds good but the major concern will be about their jobs. In current job market, many of highly qualified people can not even find labor jobs, as most of the employers seek for Canadian credentials and Canadian experiences. If you do not have Canadian experience no matter how expert you are, they will not consider your experience valuable.

The former skilled worker program has been successful at attracting qualified skilled workers to fill in the job opportunities in Canada in the past. However, the funds being put towards implementing the change in the program could be better used in other areas needed such as improving health care system, developing more jobs and control drug trafficking in Canada. I think this would also undermine the job opportunities available to others in Canada. If these jobs were to become available in different provinces, fellow Canadians could be encouraged to relocate across Canada to fill in these jobs. Thus, reducing the rate of unemployment in Canada.

This seems like a good example of a win-win situation. It is great that a program like this is in place in order to give skilled individuals the chance to come to Canada and make a difference while improving their own living situations. If there are no individuals within Canadian borders to fill certain job positions it is only logical to allow people from elsewhere to do so. This way workers from other countries can give back in ways they can while also getting the benefit of living in such a great country as Canada. — Kate Lucoff
