Jury vetting alleged in Toronto

Background checks on potential jurors in Windsor and Barrie made headlines a few weeks ago. I wrote about them but focused mostly on privacy issues. Now a defence lawyer questions jury selection in a Toronto murder trial. His client was convicted because, according to the lawyer, they “got the wrong jury.”

    I would like to know how the Crown (and possibly defence) can get a list of prospective jury members in the first place. I thought only the court offices would have a list.

    Here it is that I am thinking that only the court had access to the list of prospective jurors. I am picturing the Crown looking at the back of a courtroom where a police officer is looking at his laptop to see if any of the potential jurors have had contact with the police in any way.

    My family has been through a gruelling 3 1/2 years of court where my 14 year old Nephew was murdered in Barrie…Do you think the Crowns office wants to talk to us now…NO!
