Real Blood Diamonds

After a 6-month delay, the trial of former President, Charles Taylor, has resumed in The Hague.

A descendant of African-American slaves that migrated to Liberia and educated in the U.S., Taylor is accused of trading weapons for conflict diamonds. He faces 11 charges, and is the first former African president to come up on such charges in an international war crimes court.

The former Baptist preacher is quoted as justifying his actions as saying,

Jesus Christ was accused of being a murderer in his time.

The film “Blood Diamond” raised awareness of the issue of conflict diamonds to the general international public.

  1. “Jesus Christ was accused of being a murderer in his time.”
